Orean’s the Health Express has a wide selection of vegetarian fast food menu items, ranging from vegetarian cheese burgers to chili cheese fries made with a soy-based vegan ground beef. The pricing of the menu items is very reasonable, with breakfast items starting at $1.79, and burgers starting at the $3.50 price range.
It is a unique fast food restaurant specializing in meatless, sugarless, items created for optimum nutrituion and without chemical additives. lt is the first vegetarian fast-food take-out restaurant in the nation, and features a menu approved by the American Heart Association.
It was founded in 1979 by Orean C. Thomas who after working in food related professions and serving various industries and private companies throughout the Los Angeles area, decided to open the first Vegetarian Fast-Food restaurant.

The new franchise known as Blaze Pizza, which is owned by Wetzel’s Pretzels, has a new location on Colorado Blvd. next to Vroman’s Bookstore, they pride themselves on quality food brought out fast.

Located at 20 E Colorado Boulevard, in Old Town Pasadena, is the new King’s Row Gastropub. Previously in it’s location was Neo Meze, from which the same owners have transformed the former modern, bar/club, into King’s Row. The conversion into the gastropub seems more fitting for the historic space located in the heart of old town. The original brick walls compliment the rustic feel that should be associated with an old world infuenced restaurant and bar.
The menu at Kings Row offers salads, delicate pizzas, sandwiches, as well as a selection of dinner plates, all ranging from $5-$15. It’s a given that a gastropub should have a good selection of beer, and Kings Row does not disappoint. There is a good selection of domestic and non-domestic beer, predominated by their wide selection of local micro brews.

Orange County based restaurant, Slater’s 50/50, will be opening it’s first Los Angeles location in Old Town Pasadena, at a location that was formerly Vive. Slater’s 50/50 is known for it’s unique burgers made from 50% ground beef and 50% ground bacon. The current three Slater’s 50/50 restaurants collectively go through 16,000 pounds of bacon a month.

Trattoria Neapolis Italian restaurant and bar has opened in the middle of one of Pasadena’s popular shopping districts on South Lake Avenue. First-time restaurateur Perry Vidalakis’ new spot is bringing the style and flare of an Italian piazza. The pricey renovation shows in the marvelous interior of the restaurant, with direct influences from the owners travels in Italy. The restaurant reminds me of the high end Italian restaurants I ate at in Rome.
Serving lunch and dinner, as well as late night dishes, the menu ranges from antipasti, pasta, pizza, salads, dessert, and a long list of fine wines and full bar. Lunch dishes are $10+ and Dinner prices start around $15.
